Advantage and disadvantage of constant voltage LED strip
Jan 01, 2024
The constant voltage LED strip has following advantages:
1. Within the power range of the adapter, the LED strip could be shortened or lengthened freely as needed.
2. The adapters of constant voltage are easier to get and cost-effective.
3. The voltage is fixed like 12V or 24V DC, and it is safe.
4. Each LED works independently. Some LEDs' breakdown will not influence other LEDs working.

The disadvantages of constant voltage LED strip are as below:
1.The constant voltage LED strip has drop voltage, which means the brightness of LEDs decreases with the decrease of voltage. Usually, after 6m people will start to see a noticeable dimming in brightness due to voltage drop.
2.While there are same power LED and same quality of LEDs, the constant voltage LED strip will consume more electric power than the constant current LED strip. Because those needed regulating resistors will be loads and consume electric power.
3.The constant voltage LED strip works less stably than the constant current LED strip. Because the voltage current characteristic of LED is not fixed, while the voltage is fixed, the current still increase with the increasing of temperature. This temperature effect (increased current due to temperature rise) will increase by many times.
